Vitamin B9 (folic acid): folic acid supplementation increases maternal folate status. A low maternal folate status increases the risk of neural tube defects in the developing fetus (for 400ug per day, taken one month before pregnancy and untill 3 month after conception ).
Folates contributes to the maternal tissues growth during pregnancy and supports the cell division process.
