Gynelle® 375 CCD
Gynelle® is a non-hormonal copper intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) that works by causing local inflammation of the endometrium that prevents implantation of the fertilized oocyte into the uterus. This activity is reinforced ancillary by the presence of copper. Copper has a cytotoxic effect on the gametes causing sperm alteration, thus leading to an inhibition of fertilization. The Gynelle® IUD is effective from the day of insertion.
Gynelle® is a reversible long-term (5 years) contraceptive method indicated for nulliparous, primiparous and multiparous women for: standard first-line intrauterine contraception, emergency post-coital intrauterine contraception (within 5 days of no or poorly protected), post-partum and post-abortion intrauterine contraception (within 48 hours postpartum or post-abortion or after complete involution of the uterus).
Gynelle® consists of a rod, extended by 2 flexible arms with lugs. The rod is surrounded by a copper wire with a total surface of 375 mm2. The flexible side arms keep Gynelle® as upright as possible in the uterus without stretching the uterine cavity in any way. A single filament nylon yarn is attached to the rod.
Gynelle® measures 19 mm wide × 35.5 mm long
